Greene County Visitors Center Volunteers are Reaquainted with Shenandoah

Visitors Center Volunteers & Staff Visit ShenandoahStanardsville, VA, November 2, 2007. Visitors Center volunteers and staff were reacquainted with an ancient and endearing Greene County neighbor - the Shenandoah National Park - during a recent visit, Friday November 2.

Margaret Ramsey, realtor with Prudential Charlotte Ramsey and volunteer Director of Visitor Services for the Greene County Tourism Council, planned and coordinated the training event. Park Ranger Julena Campbell led an instructional session and introduction to the new Harry F. Byrd, Sr. Visitor Center Exhibit at Big Meadows (milepost 51 on the Skyline Drive).

The Exhibit is an experiential history of the development of the Park. Illuminating audiovisuals, including recordings, photographs, documents and artifacts, tell the Park’s story from a balanced viewpoint. Both the excitement of preserving the area’s natural beauty for future generations and the despair of the displaced landowners and their families are revealed in this informative panorama.

Greene County Visitors Center volunteers enjoyed lunch together at Big Meadows Lodge before the training session began. More Visitors Services training events are planned for 2008.

Please contact the Greene County EDA office at 434-985-6663 if you would like to join us as a Visitors Center volunteer.
