Stone Mountain Vineyards Earns Gold, Silver and Bronze

Dyke, VA, October, 2007. Stone Mountain Vineyards's 2005 Petit Verdot earned a Gold medal in the
prestigious 2007 Governor's Cup Wine Competition. Stone Mountain's 2006 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay garnered a Silver medal, while the 2004 Cabernet Franc earned a Bronze medal in Virginia's most prestigious wine competition. The competition, featuring exclusively Virginia wines, evaluated over three hundred fifty wines from around the Old Dominion.

Traditionally a blending grape, Petit Verdot is developing quite a following as an individually selected varietal. Stone Mountain's 2005 vintage features a rich, powerful, dark flavor profile, well structured mid-palate and a climactic memorable finish. The positive impacts of the 2005 growing conditions can be seen the elegant lines of the Gold medal winner. The warm days and cool nights combined with the rocky vineyard soils express themselves in the glass. Maceration in microbins produced a high level of interaction between the skins and the juice resulting in a more complex profile in the glass.

Chris Breiner, Winemaker and Managing Partner of Stone Mountain Vineyards said, "The 2005 Petit Verdot is a powerhouse. Working with Virginia pioneer, Gabriele Rausse, our goal is to grow wines that support Virginia as a leading wine region. I am humbled to receive one of the few Gold medals in this competition and very proud of the volume of high caliber wines currently being produced in Virginia."

Stone Mountain Vineyards is located 1,700 feet above sea level in Dyke, Virginia along the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Greene County winery and tasting room are open for visitors and tastings Friday - Sunday 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. For more information visit their website www.stonemountainvineyards.com or call 434-990-WINE.
