Stone Mountain Vineyards Earns Silver Four Times

Dyke, VA, MAY 2007. Stone Mountain Vineyards' elegant and food-friendly flavor has earned four Silver medals in the prestigious 2007 Tasters Guild International Wine Judging. The annual competition gathers wines and judges from around the globe. Stone Mountain's 2006 Pinot Grigio, 2006 Chardonnay, 2005 Petit Verdot and 2005 Merlot were selected for special recognition as Silver medallists.

The effects of 2005 growing conditions can be seen in the elegant lines of the red medallists. The warm days and cool nights in Stone Mountain's high altitude vineyards and the rocky soils express themselves in the glass. The Petit Verdot and Merlot benefit from slow aging in French and American oak barrels and the natural humidity of the wine cave, allowing the full expression of the site influences to be evident in the glass.

The white wine medallists from the 2006 vintage are, by design, brighter more fruit-forward wines. Aged in stainless steel, the Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay are excellent summer wines and pair well with grilled chicken or firm white fish.

Chris Breiner, Winemaker and Managing Partner of Stone Mountain Vineyards said, "I am very proud of the consistency of our wines across the vintages. Working with Virginia pioneer, Gabriele Rausse, our goal is to allow each vintage to express its unique character. I am excited to see our wines performing so well on the international stage."

Stone Mountain Vineyards is located 1,700 feet above sea level in Dyke, Virginia along the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Greene County winery and tasting room are open for visitors and tastings Friday through Sunday 11am to 5pm.
