GCEDA Press Release William Monroe High School Receives Governor's Achievement Award Stanardsville VA, January 2008. On January 10, 2008 the Virginia Department of Education announced that Greene County's William Monroe High School met all state and federal accountability benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and made significant progress toward Governor Kaine’s goals for increased student achievement and expanded educational opportunity. William Monroe High School (WMHS) was one of only 51 high schools statewide to earn the award. WMHS principal Mike Jamerson could not contain his pride, “We are obviously very excited and William Monroe High School, according the VDOE’s school report card, attained scores of 96% in math, 93% in English, 90% in science, and 94% in social studies with all sub-groups achieving state and federal benchmark requirements. Last year WMHS had an Advanced Placement course enrollment of 325 and a dual enrollment (college credit) enrollment of 77. “We intend to keep pushing the envelope in regard to offering more AP and dual enrollment opportunities for kids. Our goal is for all WMHS students to take and complete at least one AP “This is exciting news for William Monroe High School and for the Greene County community,” exclaimed GCPS Superintendent Ray Dingledine. “We are moving in the right direction and will continue to do so.” Conduct
